“Jivanmukta” a Sanskrit word which translates to a being on the path of liberation or self-realisation.
Jivanmukta music is the creative concept of South African Born artist Kerolin Govender established in the year 2009. Our inspiration of the Jivanmukta principle has lead us to path of enquiry of the true-self, and the possibility of liberation and realisation through art as an inward journey. The artistic platform is aimed at sharing with like-minded people, a taste of traditional and contemporary Indian spirit music, art, dance and poetry. We strongly believe that music with a purpose is essential for personal growth.
To raise the consciousness of humanity, fostering the basic human values through all forms of art, in order to cultivate resilient human beings of great potential.
Kerolin Keshav Govender recalls one of his earliest aspirations in life, “a dream of one day touching the hearts and souls of people through music and his interpretation of art.”
His active interests spear headed a move to gain tutelage from Shri Magantharen Balakisten who, to this day remains a spiritual mentor and inspiration for his music.
Enveloped by his love and appreciation for music and art, he immersed himself into the study of traditional classical art which gave expression to the beautiful sound he so greatly admired.
This journey saw him spend 5 years in Bangalore, India, completing his Bachelor of Architecture Degree at Visvesvaraya Technological University. This also presented him with the opportunity of furthering his musical aspirations under the direction of the Legendary Dr. L Subramaniam and Kavita Krishnamurthy at the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SAPA).
He was rewarded a two-year training program to fine tune his musical skill in Carnatic Music. This journey also transformed Kerolin’s life into a spiritual one in which he finds much solace and peace.
Kerolin, now, the creative director of Jivanmukta music, hopes to promote, share and explore the world of art, to create a platform for like-minded people to share in the experience of soulful music and art. He believes music has the potential to heal and lives by the motto: “Rediscover the true-self and live with the yearning to discover.”
